I had an idea a while ago to combine the delicious flavours of pork and apple into a delicious pie. So I told my beautiful lady about this idea, and she thought it would be terrible, until she came across this recipe, which she promptly showed me. I had no choice but to make it, and here are the results.
I pretty much followed the recipe exactly, with the exception of using pork loin instead of shoulder. The end result was meat that didn’t fall apart, but was still very tender and juicy. So I won’t bother posting the recipe again here, photos should suffice.
- Browning the pork
- Oh yeaaaah…
- Onions cooking in chicken stock
- Pork goes in with the onions for an hour or two
- Pork and Apple go in to stew
- The pie is ready and leaking its delicious juices
- The pie bears its delicious soul
So the resulting pie was quite tasty. I was a little disappointed though, I think the chicken stock overpowered the taste of the pork a little too much. It might have been nicer to use half the amount of chicken stock, and maybe use some apple juice or even just water.

Cider is the way to go with pork. One of my friends swears by using the cheapest cider you can find to cook pork in – it turns out great, but i can’t help wondering what a better cider would taste like.
